Job Title:            Post High School Transitional Living Program Manager: The Brooke Whitted Center

Reports to:         Executive Directors of the O-School

Job Summary: The Whitted Center has been designed to meet the needs of college bound high school graduates (aged 18-24) who are working to overcome and navigate mental health challenges as they prepare for life in a college or vocational certification setting. A relationally based dynamic, built on the core ideas essential to milieu treatment, The Whitted Center is founded on a strength based approach that encompasses empowering and facilitating a young adult's adaptive and pro-social life plan in collaboration with their family or caregivers.

The Program Manager of the Brooke Whitted Center is uniquely qualified to engage in the clinical aspects of treatment and transitional planning to grow this program to national prominence. Because the Whitted Center is still a new and developing program, the Program Manager will have a central role in key aspects of program development, with a primary focus of establishing and leading consistent daily activities and routines.  The Program Manager will have the opportunity to supervise staff, oversee staffing schedules, develop and implement  programming that focuses on scaffolding the tasks of daily life toward independence. The Program Manager will be responsible for ensuring consistent programming,  including weekends and evenings. 

Job Duties:

The Program Manager Shall:

  • Develop Program goals and plans for implementation; and,
  • Oversee program implementation across all disciplines including (but not limited to): residential life, therapy, family outreach, related services, academic planning, psycho-educational groups, and transitional services; and,
  • Serve as a role model and provide leadership to every member of the staff; and,
  • Train and supervise Brooke Whitted Center staff and foster a committed and caring culture that reinforces the values of a therapeutic milieu; and,
  • Monitor the level of care and well- being of each emerging adult enrolled in the Whitted Center; and,
  • Provide resources to counselors in order to enable them to problem solve and overcome treatment barriers; and,
  • Determine outcomes based measures that in alignment with program goals and establish a reporting protocol; and,
  • Participate in the development of all program based reporting including (but not limited to): inspirational transition plans, therapeutic and academic summaries, treatment reviews, program overviews and data derived from research and outcomes; and,
  • Convene regular meetings and ensures timely reporting and communication; and,
  • Ensure continuity in programming and operation between the BWC and the Orthogenic School including (but not limited to) cross-training opportunities, collaborative experiences, and consistent practices; and,
  • Demonstrate expertise in accessing (and programming for) metropolitan based experiences for students in the areas of recreation, vocation, the Arts, education and general daily life; and,
  • Coordinate regular outreach to colleges and Universities; and,
  • Demonstrate a desire to grow and learn as a professional and engender this approach in the BWC team.

Education:

  • Master's Degree or higher in the field of Social Work, Organizational and/or Educational Leadership required; and,
  • Clinical Licensure within the State of Illinois preferred; and,
  • Experience with College counseling required; and,
  • Experience in Non-Profit Leadership preferred; and,
  • Certification in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention required within 30 days of hiring; and,
  • Valid Illinois Driver's License Required.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years in the field of college counseling with expertise working with young adults who require advocacy and support; and,
  • Minimum of 3 years experience working with emerging adults; and,
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a leadership/ administrative role; and,
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a school or transitional setting required; and,
  • Experience establishing and coordinating transitional experiences for emerging adults in collaboration with external resources required; and
  • Extensive experience with and knowledge of colleges and universities - both local and across the U.S.

Working Conditions:

  • Direct contact with emerging adults and their families
  • Clinical care Setting
  • Irregular Work Schedule- including some travel on behalf of the program
  • Office Environment

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to climb stairs; and,
  • Carry or lift loads of up 25 lbs; and,
  • Ability to sit between 2 and 4 hours; and,
  • Ability to perform strenuous exertion at times; and,
  • Ability to run; and,
  • Ability to use standard work station equipment; and,
  • Ability to use standard Office Equipment.
