Position Summary:

Work with one child, on a daily basis, to facilitate the educational process and ensure a high level of supervision and safety within the classroom. Assist the classroom teacher as

necessary and appropriate.

Position Salary & Benefits:

Salary is commensurate with experience. The Sonia Shankman Orthogenic School offers a comprehensive benefits package.

Essential Functions:

20% Monitor a student throughout all aspects of the academic day.

20% Provide individual tutoring.

15% Assist a student with school -based tasks, and academic responsibilities.

15% Collaborate with a student to ensure that all books and materials are packed up and

organized for transitions.

15% Work with the classroom teacher to develop and maintain a daily routine that is safe,

structured, and orderly.

10% Attend and participate in all staff meetings, individual planning meetings, and school based

events.

5% Document student progress when necessary.

Education/Experience/Knowledge Minimum Requirements:

Two years of college experience required; Bachelor's degree or a background in

education preferred; interest in working with children within a school setting required; strong

communication and problem solving skills required; experience working with special needs children,

or within an academic setting, preferred. Applicants should possess a strong commitment to strength

perspective, empowering families and a willingness to work in a high demanding work situation that

requires flexibility and innovativeness; applicants must possess cultural competency.

Working Conditions:

Must be patient and able to multi-task. Must understand rules of confidentiality.

Must have the capacity to work effectively as a team member.

Physical Effort:

Must be able to lift minimum of twenty pounds. Light moving is required from

time to time. Must be able to participate, as necessary, in physical education activities.
