Assists teachers with all aspects of the academic program. Instructs and provides counseling to students. Designs, prepares, and implements lessons in coordination with the classroom teacher. Assesses and documents student progress. Participates in staff meetings, individual planning meetings, and parent-student meetings.
Teaching Assistant: Assists the classroom teacher with all aspects of the academic program. Interacts on a daily basis with students, teachers, and residential staff and is an integral part of the classroom organization and structure.
Bachelor's degree in liberal arts, education, or a related field required.
Illinois Type 39 Substitute Teaching Certificate or commensurate preferred.
Ability to relate to special needs students in a constructive and therapeutic manner required.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
Capacity to cooperate effectively with school team required.
Capacity to solve problems, and exhibit patience throughout the day required.
Capacity to multi-task in order to meet the needs of more than one student, if necessary required.
Strong interest in academics across the curriculum required.
Understanding of the rules of confidentiality required.
Ability to lift minimum of twenty pounds required.
Occasional light moving required.
Ability to supervise children of various ages required.
Ability to participate, as necessary, in physical education activities required.
